In 2004 he received a knighthood for services to journalism and is now a regular columnist for the Guardian. Last year he was appointed Chairman of Britain's National Trust. He has written widely on architecture, the press and politics.
Nasser bin Ghaith
Speaking against the motionDr. Nasser bin Ghaith is an Emirati financial analyst specialising in economic trading blocs. He is regularly quoted in the financial press and has participated in discussion programmes for Al Jazeera English and MBC. Dr. Ghaith is currently a lecturer in economics at the Sorbonne, Abu Dhabi.
Sharla Musabih
Speaking for the motionSharla Musabih is an Emirati citizen who founded the City of Hope shelter for women and children in Dubai in 2001. Previously, she campaigned against using children as camel jockeys, a practice which was banned in the Emirates in 2005. Since June last year Mrs. Musabih has been living in the United States where she continues to work as a human rights activist.
Mishal Kanoo
Speaking against the motionMishal Hamed Kanoo is Deputy Chairman of The Kanoo Group, one of the largest independent group of companies in the Gulf region. He finished his schooling in Dubai and holds an MBA in finance from the University of St Thomas, Houston, Texas. Mishal is a frequent speaker at conferences in the Gulf and has contributed to Money Works magazine.
