Arab governments have failed the Palestinians. That was the overwhelming view of the audience at the first Doha Debate of the second series on September 28th, 2005.
The motion was: ‘This House believes that Arab governments have failed the Palestinians'.
It was a fiery and emotional debate as two Palestinian advisors argued from very different positions.
Ghada Karmi, an information adviser to the Palestinian Authority, argued for the motion with Hussein Ibish, a Senior Fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine.
Michael Tarazi, legal advisor for the Palestinian Authority Ministry for Jerusalem Affairs, and former Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher argued that Arab governments had done all they could to promote the Palestinian cause.
The motion was carried by 72.3 percent.
