Speaking for the motionMohammed Ali Abdallah is the Deputy Secretary General of The National Front for the Salvation of Libya - one of Libya’s most prominent opposition groups in exile. He was appointed to the group’s permanent bureau in 2002 and was elected deputy secretary general in 2007. The NFSL was formed in 1981 to oppose military and dictatorial rule in Libya.
Fadel Lamen
Speaking against the motionFadel Lamen is the President of the American-Libyan Council. He is a journalist, writer, and Middle East/North Africa expert and political and cultural adviser based in Washington, D.C. He is a frequent traveller to the Middle East and has been published in a number of Arabic and English newspapers on issues related to the Middle East, Islam, and American foreign policy.
Paul Salem
Speaking for the motionPaul Salem is the Director of the Carnegie Middle East Center. Previously he was the general director of the Fares Foundation and founded and directed the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies, Lebanon's leading public policy think tank. He has published widely on conflict resolution in the Arab world and was a member of the Lebanese National Commission for Electoral Law Reform.
Omar Ashour
Speaking against the motionDr. Omar Ashour lectures in the politics of the modern Arab world at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK. His research interests include Islamist movements and ideologies, democratisation, ethnic and civil conflict, and terrorism studies. He is currently working on a project regarding democratic transition and ending authoritarianism in North Africa.
