This House believes that oil has been more of a curse than a blessing for the Middle East

A majority of audience at a Doha Debate held on November 15th agreed that oil has been more of a curse than a blessing for the Middle East.

The winning team included Hossein Askari, the Iran Professor of International Business and Professor of International Affairs at George Washington University, and Carole Nakhle, an independent petroleum analyst based in London and advisor to the British parliament on energy issues.

Opposing the motion was Ramzi Salman, advisor to Qatar’s Minister of Energy and Industry and former deputy secretary general of OPEC, and Nawaf Obaid, managing director of the Saudi National Security Assessment Project.

They motion: 'This House believes that oil has been more of a curse than a blessing for the Middle East' was passed by 63.3% of the audience.
