Ece Temelkuran
Speaking for the motion
Ece Temelkuran is one of Turkey’s best-known journalists and political commentators. She has published widely and won numerous awards for her work, including the Pen for Peace Award and Turkish Journalist of the Year. She has authored a number of books, two of them are translated into English: ”Deep Mountain-Across the Turkish Armenian Divide” and “Book of the Edge”. She has been a journalist since 1993 and has been writing political columns since 2000. Her articles have been published in New Left Review, Le Monde Diplomatique, Global Voices Advocacy and the Guardian.
Sinan Ulgen

Sinan Ülgen is a visiting scholar at Carnegie Europe in Brussels, a founding partner of Istanbul Economics, a Turkish consultancy that specializes in public and regulatory affairs, and chairman of the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM), an independent think tank in Istanbul. He has served in the Turkish Foreign Service in several capacities: in Ankara at the United Nations desk (1990–1992); in Brussels at the Turkish Permanent Delegation to the European Union (1992–1996); and at the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli (1996).
Hassan Mneimneh

Hassan Mneimneh is a Senior Transatlantic Fellow for MENA and the Islamic World at the German Marshall Fund. Previously he was a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and a Visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. Between 2003 and 2008, Mneimneh was Director of the Iraq Memory Foundation, an organization dedicated to inviting Iraqi society to a reflection on issues of political responsibility, social order, and transitional justice in Iraq.
Aboubakr Jamai
Speaking against the motion
Aboubakr Jamaï is the co-editor of the Moroccan news website lakome.com and a non-resident fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University. From 1997 to 2007, Jamaï was the publisher and editor of the leading Moroccan newsweekly, Le Journal hebdomadaire. He won the Committee To Protect Journalists’ International Press Freedom Award in 2003 and in December 2010, he won the Gebran Tueni Award, the annual prize of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers for his pursuit of a free and independent press in Morocco.
