This House believes that all foreign troops should leave Iraq immediately

An overwhelming majority attending a Doha Debate on December 14th voted that all foreign troops should withdraw from Iraq immediately.

The debate was heated, especially over the main issue raised which was whether security would improve or worsen if the coalition troops left.

Speaking for the motion: ‘This House believes that all foreign troops should leave Iraq immediately' was James J. Zogby, head of the Arab American Institute.

His co-speaker was Reg Keys, the father of a British soldier killed in Iraq. Mr. Keys stood against Tony Blair in recent parliamentary elections, drawing much publicity to his story and his anti-war platform.

Opposing the motion was Ali Al-Bayati, an Iraqi diplomat based in London and an influential member of SCIRI, the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq.

Mr. Al-Bayati was joined by Raymond Tanter, a professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and adjunct scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
